PAINTING & COATING
INSPECTION
Verify surface preparation, coating quality, DFT and compliance to help protect assets and reduce costly rework.
LEARN MORE ↓Painting & Coating Inspection
A practical technical guide to coating inspection for oil & gas, petrochemical, power, marine and industrial projects — from surface preparation to final acceptance.
01. Surface Preparation
Verify surface cleanliness, profile, contamination, rust grade and preparation method before coating application.
02. Environmental Conditions
Check air temperature, steel temperature, relative humidity and dew point to ensure suitable application conditions.
03. Coating Application
Control mixing, induction time, thinning, pot life, application method, recoat interval and curing requirements.
04. Dry Film Thickness
Verify coating thickness using calibrated instruments and confirm compliance with specified acceptance limits.
05. Coating Defects
Identify runs, sags, pinholes, holidays, blistering, cracking, poor adhesion, overspray, dry spray and inadequate coverage.
06. Final Inspection
Review visual condition, DFT, adhesion, holiday testing, repairs, documentation and final acceptance requirements.
Painting and coating inspection should be performed against the approved project specification, coating manufacturer’s requirements and applicable international standards, including ISO 12944, ISO 19840 and relevant AMPP standards.
